The story follows Julia (), a suburban mother of two with a seemingly comfortable life. She has a stable job at her father's accounting office and a caring husband named Paul ( Kees Boot ). Beneath the picture-perfect surface, however, Julia is drowning in depression and reliant on anti-depressants hidden in her kitchen drawer.
Her underlying emotional crisis is rooted in deep trauma from her teenage years: the tragic loss of her brother, Jimmy (Matthijs van de Sande Bakhuyzen), who passed away twenty years prior. Following a heated argument with Paul, Julia makes a sudden, radical choice to break free from her domestic routine. The Journey to the Algarve
