LibreOffice is the most robust open-source office suite available, and it has an maintained by PortableApps.com.
Even this legitimate method is fragile. Office 2007 relies on services (like OLE and DDE) that do not work well in isolation. You will likely experience errors with embedded objects or macros.
A completely free, open-source alternative that is natively designed to run from a USB drive. It is available through the PortableApps platform.
