The Adam Project went through a long road to reach the screen. The project was originally in development as early as 2012 with Tom Cruise attached to star, but it faced several setbacks before Netflix acquired the rights in 2020. The film was shot from November 2020 to March 2021. Netflix released the movie with a budget of around on March 11, 2022 , after a limited one-night theatrical run just two days prior. The film was directed by Shawn Levy, known for Night at the Museum and Real Steel , who also produced the film alongside Ryan Reynolds.
