The male protagonist typically embodies the archetype of the "wounded alpha"—a man of power and influence who uses his authority to shield himself from emotional vulnerability. His initial harshness toward the heroine is a defense mechanism, a projection of his past traumas onto her. Conversely, the heroine represents resilience. She is rarely a passive victim; rather, she is a woman forced to wear a mask of indifference or guilt to survive in a world that has already condemned her. This imbalance of power creates the central conflict of the novel.
