Within LGBTQ spaces, Black, Indigenous, and other trans people of color (QTBIPOC) navigate skin color, ethno-racial prejudice, and other forms of discrimination, even within communities ostensibly built for their inclusion. This reality has given rise to distinct intellectual traditions—from Black trans studies to Latinx queer critique—that examine how racialized groups have been defined through systems of sexual and gender normativity, and how they have resisted those systems in multidimensional ways.
