Shahzad Bashir Books Portable -
Perhaps Bashir's most ambitious and innovative project to date, this book is a "groundbreaking, born-digital" interactive, open-access monograph developed with the MIT Press. In it, Bashir invites readers to fundamentally reimagine Islam itself. He moves beyond conventional theological, nativist, and orientalist approaches, decentering Islam from a geographical identification with the Middle East, from an articulation through men's authority alone, and from the assumption that premodern expressions are more authentic than modern ones.
In Hidden Histories , Bashir, as a co-editor, contributes to a vital project uncovering neglected narratives of gender, religion, and reform in modern South Asia. The volume features essays from eminent scholars examining Indo-Muslim cultures, political mobilization, and literary aesthetics. The book is dedicated to the pioneering historian Gail Minault and seeks to bring to light the "hidden histories" that complicate standard accounts of the region's past. shahzad bashir books
