Because Watusi is not available through the official App Store, it must be downloaded from third‑party websites. Some of these sites are unreliable and may host IPAs that contain malware, spyware, or ad‑injection code. Security researchers have documented campaigns that specifically target users of unofficial messaging mods. Furthermore, because Watusi circumvents Apple’s sandboxing and code review process, the app may be able to access or track your device activity in ways that an App Store app could not. Some reports also indicate that conversations in modded clients may not enjoy the same end‑to‑end encryption guarantees as the official app.
