Radnja filma prati Majka Enslina (Džon Kjuzak), ciničnog pisca koji se bavi raskrinkavanjem paranormalnih pojava i ukletih lokacija nakon porodične tragedije. Enslin ne veruje u duhove i zagrobni život, sve dok ne dobije misterioznu razglednicu sa porukom: "Nemoj ulaziti u 1408" .

This is a one-man show for most of the film. Cusack carries the entire movie with raw emotion—from smug arrogance to absolute desperation. Watching him unravel is captivating. (Subtitles won't hurt this, as you still hear his voice). 1408 sa prevodom
